Trinity will adopt a classical, liberal arts curriculum that is rooted in Catholic Christianity. The classical method of education follows a particular pattern of learning called the Trivium. The Trivium consists of three stages (Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric), which compliment the natural phases of child development.
We begin with the Grammar Stage when young children enjoy and have the facility for absorbing information. During this stage, the building blocks for all other learning are laid as students observe, collect, memorize, and categorize information. The mind is formed, strengthened, and developed as children are immersed in the wonder of the created world and filled with images of the good, true, and beautiful.
The next stage of the Trivium is the Dialectic Stage, which begins as children are developing the ability to reason and are prone to question and argue. During this stage, students begin a study of logic and apply critical thinking to all subject areas. They organize and analyze information and learn to understand and produce an intellectual argument.
Finally, we arrive at the Rhetoric Stage when students’ interests shift from internal to external concerns. Students are now equipped to learn the art of communicating well. They are trained to write and speak with clarity, persuasion, and eloquence and to use these skills to serve all that is noble and true.
